All schools in the Diocese of Dallas follow the same curricula, which are provided by the Catholic Schools Office of the diocese. The curricula cover all core content areas, including Religion, as well as the special or supportive instructional areas [Art, Music, etc.]. The curricula list specific learner objectives by grade level and by content area – indicating when a concept or skill should be introduced, expanded, or mastered.
Teachers use a checklist that parallels the curricula to note when a class has achieved a particular element of the curricula. Enhancements to the curricula can be implemented at the classroom level [3rd grade Olympians, 5th grade Ring of Honor] or in a school-wide fashion [participation in PSIA competition, participation in the diocesan speech tournaments].
The CSO updates the curricula by content area in a 3 to 5 year rotation and then pilots rewritten curricula for one year before full implementation diocesan wide. During the 2007-2008 school year the Language Arts curriculum has been finalized and the revised Science curriculum is being piloted.
