Who’s who in the lunchroom?
Jenny Elsden – cafeteria manager
Mary Myers, Ann Mozley, Laurie Belson, Irene Escobar – staff
Rosemary Martinez – cafeteria volunteer coordinator
Sign in as a volunteer
All volunteers must sign in at the office prior to entering the cafeteria. Sign in as a volunteer and obtain a green vest!
The first volunteer to arrive should obtain the lunch binder and basket from the office when signing in and bring to the cafeteria.
The Lunch Binder
Please record any ‘unplanned’/extra meals or drinks in the white lunch binder.
Classroom teachers take a lunch/beverage count each morning and turn that count into the office…volunteers only note those missed or changed from AM count
All lunches/beverages recorded in book should be listed under the student’s name i.e.: grandma’s lunch should be listed under Gregory’s name not grandma’s!
Allow students to wait no more than 15 minutes into their lunchtime for parents to bring outside meals before obtaining and recording a cafeteria lunch for that student
Duties/Responsibilities
Supervision of Students - No student may leave the lunchroom without an escort.
Please escort children to the bathroom (students will have bathroom breaks prior to lunch), office or nurse’s office
Students are to remain in their seats once seated
Students must raise their hand if they require assistance
All trash is thrown away once dismissed at the end of lunch period
Keep class on schedule for returning to classrooms
Kindergarten - 10:40-11:10
Fifth grade - 10:55-11:25
First grade - 11:00-11:30
Second grade - 11:05-11:35
Third grade - 11:15-11:45
Fourth grade - 11:25-11:55
Sixth/Seventh - 11:45-12:15
Classes should be dismissed 2-3 minutes before the end of their lunch period to clean up and line up at the south end of the room to wait for their teacher: Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd will sit in lines to wait for teachers and do not have cleaning responsibilities (they must throw away trash, etc).
3rd – 7th can stand in line – two children from each class will clean tables (need squirt cleaner and paper towels and supervision)
Supervise the lunch line
The children should get a single utensil, straw if they would like, a single napkin and condiments before going up to the lunch counter
A volunteer will supervise handing out beverages. It is helpful to open milks and waters for those in K-2!
]A second beverage is available to anyone who purchased a lunch or a beverage. You may only dispense white milk as a second beverage and only one extra and only at a student’s request.
A volunteer will dispense ketchup in line and extra ketchup can be given at the tables
Encourage children to eat food served/from multiple food groups!
Monitor behavior in the lunchroom.
Students are expected to behave appropriately and are expected to change inappropriate behavior at first request from a volunteer. If inappropriate behavior persists, the student should be removed from their seat and placed in an open spot at another table to finish lunchtime. If inappropriate behavior still persists, child should be taken to the office. The child’s teacher should be notified of any discipline action taken in the lunchroom.
Volunteer Schedule
The volunteer schedule will be sent home monthly (prior to the first school day of the month) in the Friday folders to those that are listed on that month’s calendar. It will also be posted on this website and on the bulletin board outside of the school office.
The schedule is prepared by Rosemary Martinez who can be contacted via e-mail at jrgmartinez@msn.com
Volunteers are responsible for obtaining their own substitute if they are unable to work on a scheduled day. A list of substitutes will be sent home early in the school year and will be available in the volunteer lunch binder.
