All 2nd - 8th grade students at St. Joseph Catholic School take part in Reconciliation at least one time per quarter.
Formal preparation for First Reconciliation begins when school starts in the Fall for our second grade students, as well as, older students who would like to receive the sacrament for the first time. First Reconciliation for those prepared students typically takes place in early November.
The curriculum used for preparation is the First Reconciliation Sadlier Sacrament Program. Our children learn about the Ten Commandments, Venial vs. Mortal Sin, the five steps to a good confession, how to examine your conscience, the words to use when receiving the sacrament of confession, the Act of Contrition, God's mercy and love no matter what sin, and Bible stories including the prodigal son, the greatest commandment and the lost sheep.
"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful. James 5:16
Confession heals, confession justifies, confession grants pardon of sin, all hope consists in confession: in confession there is a chance for mercy." St. Isidore of Seville
