Where I have lived: I grew up in McKinney, Texas and currently live in Dallas. I lived in Ethiopia for 3 years as well!
My Professional Experience: I taught Art in the Dallas Independent School District for several years. Before that, I served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia. While serving in Ethiopia, I worked as an English Language Teacher trainer in five elementary schools for two years. There I provided support to all English teachers at each school in the community through model teaching, co-teaching and direct teaching, mentoring and hosting workshops and English Clubs for staff and students alike. Additionally I taught malaria prevention and other health related activities. During my 3rd year, I taught a supplementary English course at a local University to freshman female students to provide them with extra support and encouragement so they could be successful students.

Something you might not know about me: I speak Amharic, (the national language of Ethiopia)! And my last name is pronounced : "hi lee Michael".
My prayer for my students: I pray that my students feel loved and supported by their family, their community, and Christ throughout the school year and that I can give them strength of character, spirit and creative grit.
